Easily load construction schedule files (.XML) from Microsoft Project (MS Project) into ConstructionOnline™
BACKGROUND
ConstructionOnline™ offers the world's fastest online Scheduling, providing construction teams with powerful scheduling tools to accurately and efficiently plan & manage construction project timelines - from initial project start through the entire duration of the job.
Many construction pros may have historical schedules or templates pulled from MS Project, and to support an easy transition of data to ConstructionOnline™, there is a simple, direct import for Microsoft Project schedule files to ConstructionOnline™ Scheduling.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
- ConstructionOnline Projects can only have a single, active schedule.
- In order to successfully import Resource(s) associated with the schedule, their email in MS Project must match their public email address in ConstructionOnline.
STEPS TO IMPORT A SCHEDULE FROM MICROSOFT PROJECT
- Navigate to the desired Project via the Left Sidebar.
- Locate and select the “Calendars & Schedules” tab.
- If you have chosen to have Scheduling appear as a Project Quick Link, you may also access the Warranty Tracking feature from the Project’s "Overview" tab.
- From within the “Calendars & Schedules” tab, click on “Scheduling” in the “Calendar/Schedule Categories” column.
- Tap the green “Add New Schedule…” button and choose the option to “Import from Microsoft Project.”
- Press the blue “Continue” button to open the screen where you can upload the MS Project file.
- Click on the gray “Choose File” button underneath the “Choose Microsoft Project File (.XML) to Import” section.
- This will trigger the device’s file explorer where you can select the desired MS Project file to import.
- The .XML file will need to be exported from MS Project and saved to the local device, server, or other accessible drive for access during this step.
- Confirm the file chosen is indeed the correct file for import.
- You may also enter a Schedule Name that will be displayed in ConstructionOnline and verify the Related Project.
- The current Project is assigned by default and cannot be changed.
- You may also enter a Schedule Name that will be displayed in ConstructionOnline and verify the Related Project.
- Hit the blue “Save” button to proceed with the import of the MS Project file.
Pro Tip: Import of MS Project files in .XML format is also available when creating independent Company Schedules or Schedule Templates.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- MS Project files must be exported from Microsoft Project in .XML format for successful direct import to ConstructionOnline’s Scheduling feature.
- ConstructionOnline Scheduling does not support the import of .XLS, .XLSX, .PDF, .TXT, or .CSV files.
- MS Project files are sometimes saved in the .MPP format. Instructions for saving MS Project files to a different file format (such as .XML) can be found here: Microsoft Support > Export Data to Another File Format
Note: If you have a .MPP file which you are not able to save as .XML, contact UDA Technical Support at 1.800.700.8321 for personalized import assistance.
- Subscription Level: ConstructionOnline's Scheduling feature is available for companies with current ConstructionOnline subscriptions at Construction LT, Residential Pro, Professional, Team, Business, and Enterprise levels.
- OnPlan Scheduling is also available as a Per-Company Add-On for all other plans.
- Permissions: Admin Users and Company Users with “Can Create, Edit, & Delete” permissions for Scheduling can import schedules from Microsoft Project.
- Scheduling updates are saved in real-time as changes are made, keeping Project team members always current and up-to-date.
