Submit and track Requests for Information from the field
BACKGROUND
RFIs in ConstructionOnline streamline communication by allowing teams to request clarification, document questions, and track responses directly within a project. Using the mobile app, users can create RFIs from the field, attach photos or documents, and ensure that questions are routed to the correct contacts in real time. This helps teams resolve issues quickly and maintain complete project documentation.
HOW TO CREATE RFIS IN CONSTRUCTIONONLINE MOBILE
- Open the ConstructionOnline Mobile App on your device.
- Click RFIs under the Communication section in your Tools dashboard.

- Select the desired Project from your Projects list.
- This will display all RFIs associated with the selected Project.
- Press the orange (+) button in the bottom right corner of your screen.

- This will open the "New Request for Information" window where you can enter information about the RFI, including -
- Details:
- To: Specify the Contact(s) to whom you want to send the RFI. This field is required.
- Add CC Recipients: Add Contact(s) to be carbon copied on the RFI.
- Subject: Give the RFI a title. This field is required.
- Question/Clarification Needed: State the question or clarification needed. This field is required.
- Number: The number assigned to the RFI for organizational purposes.
- ConstructionOnline assigns a sequential number by default, reflecting the total number of previously created RFIs. However, the number can be changed or deleted.
- Authored By: Identify the Contact requesting the information.
- ConstructionOnline, by default, populates the user's Contact who is creating the RFI. The author can be changed or removed.
- Assigned To: Designate the Contact(s) responsible for the RFI.
- Due Date: Specify the date the RFI response is due.
- Added Days: Enter the number of days added to the Project schedule due to the RFI.
- Trade: Select the relevant trade, if applicable.
- Cost Code: The relevant Cost Code. This field cannot be modified.
- Cost Impact: Describe any potential cost impact associated with the RFI.
- By default, ConstructionOnline has the "To Be Determined" box selected. This is useful when the cost impact is unknown.
- Drawing Number: Enter the relevant drawing number if the RFI is associated with the Project’s plans.
- Location: Specify the location related to the RFI.
- Complexity: Indicate the complexity level of the RFI.
- To: Specify the Contact(s) to whom you want to send the RFI. This field is required.
- Files & Photos: Upload any attachments pertinent to the RFI.
- Details:
- Click either the “Create RFI” button or the “Create RFI & Send Emails” button.
- Selecting the “Create RFI & Send Emails” button will send emails to the Assigned Resource(s).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Subscription Level: ConstructionOnline's RFIs feature is available for all Commercial, Specialty & Subs, Multi-Family, and Enterprise active ConstructionOnline subscriptions.
- RFI Tracking is also available as a Per-Company Add-On for all other plans.
- Permissions:
- Company Users must have "Can Create, Edit, & Delete" RFI Tracking permissions.
- ClientLink™ / TeamLink™ Users must have Requests for Information permissions enabled to view and interact with RFIs they're assigned to.
